![]() I was born in Palmerston North, New Zealand, back in the early sixties, when a dozen Bluff oysters cost you 20c, the Mk II Zephyr was the pinnacle of motoring fashion and the pubs still closed at 6 pm. I was educated in New Zealand and England; fortunately, largely in co-educational schools. My ambition was to be a marine biologist, like my idol of the era, Jacques Cousteau. At about the age of thirteen, when I realised I was afraid of water, I decided I wanted to be an actor instead, and sprang the boards at various rep. theatres & light opera societies for the next few years, till university, when I became interested in languages. In New Zealand & London, I studied French, German, Russian, Czech and Hungarian with varying degrees of success. In 1985, I came to Budapest for the proverbial "six months" to practice the language and promptly fell in love with the language, a girl and the local charcuterie. After a few years becoming acquainted with all three I took a job with a local concert organizer who had territorial ambitions on the region. I travelled extensively, usually while drinking in the back of a tour bus with musicians and roadies. Needless to say, I had a very silly haircut at the time and was never short of a plectrum. Through an unlikely series of coincidences and accidents I was offered the opportunity to start up Sony Music Hungary, a company that would be major player in Hungary's record market. I worked as Managing Director for three years, during which I discovered the internet, and was hooked. Then this position opened up at iSYS and the rest, as they say, is history. My spare time is spent on the net, listening to records, playing computer games with my fiancee and ball games with my dog, reading and writing cheap fiction and trying to perfect the definitive poulet roti a l'estragon.
